Good to know
Unlock PDF removes a password from a file you can already open, so you do not have to type it every time, or so the document can be processed by other tools. It is for convenience on files you are entitled to access: enter the password once and get an unprotected copy back.
It is not a way into a document you do not have the password for — encryption exists precisely to prevent that. If you have forgotten the password to your own file, you will need to recover it from wherever you stored it. Once unlocked, handle the copy carefully; it no longer carries the protection the original had.
